Contractors

Landscaping contractors like VERSA-LOK retaining wall blocks because they make installing great-looking walls easy and cost-efficient. VERSA-LOK blocks are a match for just about any retaining wall or hardscaping feature.

VERSA-LOK walls are made of high-strength concrete blocks, dry-stacked, interlocked with pins and set on granular leveling pads. These mortarless walls do not need frost footings. VERSA-LOK walls easily accommodate soil reinforcement with geogrid, a cost-effective method for stabilizing soil behind tall walls.

Advantages of VERSA-LOK Retaining Wall Systems for Contractors

Easy Installation

A unique pinning system, solid units that are easy to modify, and a wide range of design capabilities combine to make VERSA-LOK retaining walls contractor favorites. All VERSA-LOK units are designed to install simply; even the random-looking Mosaic system has simple-to-install, repeating panels and easily accommodates geogrid.

Solid Retaining Wall Units

Solid VERSA-LOK units are easily modified onsite, enabling you to create a wide variety of landscaping features. With solid units, exposed sides or backs can be split to create a texture that matches the wall face texture. Solid VERSA-LOK units also eliminate the need to fill cores with aggregate and provide extra stability and durability during construction.

Top-pinning

VERSA-LOK’s top-pinning units make setting and interlocking units easy. Heavy units do not need to be carefully set over pins or protrusions. Rather, you simply slide VERSA-LOK units into place, then drop pins into the top unit holes and down into the slots in the unit below.

Variable Bond

VERSA-LOK’s unique hole-to-slot pinning system means units do not need to be exactly half-way over units below (half-bond). As walls are built around curves and corners, contractors can easily place the units on varying bond. Special modifications or unsightly gaps between units, needed by some systems to maintain half-bond, can be avoided with VERSA-LOK units.

Cost-Effective Hardscaping Solution

Using solid VERSA-LOK units reduces the amount of aggregate needed, because the units do not have cores that need to be filled. And because VERSA-LOK units are easy to modify, less labor is needed to install even high-end design features, such as special curves, corners and columns. For shorter walls, VERSA-LOK retaining walls save money, because they do not need structural footings below frost. For taller walls, VERSA-LOK retaining walls with geogrid-reinforced soil provide a much lower total cost than natural stone, cast-in-place concrete, or big pre-cast units.

Landscape Design Flexibility

VERSA-LOK retaining wall units can be modified to easily match virtually any landscape design, including all kinds of curves and corners. Our solid units can also make a seemingly endless array of special features, such as steps, freestanding walls, columns, seat walls, and planters. Even Mosaic walls, with their random appearance, will easily accommodate special layouts and features.

No Special Units Needed

Because solid VERSA-LOK units can be modified quickly onsite, no special units need to be ordered. This eliminates the problem of running out of special inventory, if there are changes in the field. It also ensures color consistency, because all units—those used as is and any that are modified—will come from the same pallets.

Attractive Color and Texture Options

Many color options, from solid to blended mixes, are available; check with your local producer as colors vary regionally. Colors are integral throughout the units, so modified surfaces will display color consistent with the rest of the unit. This ensures that the color of a special feature will be consistent throughout. Units and caps of various colors can be combined for aesthetic effects. For larger projects, units with custom colors can sometimes be produced, consult with your local producer for color and texture options in your area.

The faces of the units are available in the traditional split-face texture and the natural, Weathered look. Because solid VERSA-LOK units come in varying heights and widths, they can be used to create a random appearance, like natural stone, and to include special accents, such as stripes or insets. The combined Standard-Cobble units of the Harmony wall system provide varying widths. Mosaic combines three VERSA-LOK units that vary in both height and width for a high-end random look. Easy modification of solid units means special details, such as top-of-wall step downs, will look professionally finished.

Stable and Durable

High-strength, solid concrete VERSA-LOK units offer superior resistance to damage before, during and after construction. The setback between wall courses ensures walls lean back into the soil, improving stability. With proper geogrid soil reinforcement, VERSA-LOK walls are stable to heights of 50 feet or more.

Freeze/Thaw Resistant

VERSA-LOK units are placed on granular leveling pads and are dry-stacked without mortar. Because VERSA-LOK units can move slightly in relation to each other, VERSA-LOK walls readily tolerate freeze/thaw cycle movements without damage and so do not need structural footings below frost.

Free-Draining Wall Face

Because VERSA-LOK walls are built without mortar, water can pass through the wall joints to reduce hydrostatic pressure behind walls.
